AguMagu is a free public-service app that helps people in the Maldives check and compare
everyday market prices. It is operated by the Ministry of Economic Development,
Transport and Trade ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app
handles and how. We designed AguMagu to work without accounts and without collecting
personal information wherever possible.
Information we handle
Anonymous device identifier. When you first open the app it generates a
random identifier that is stored on your device and on our servers. It is not linked to your
name, phone number, Apple/Google account, or any other identity. We use it only to sync your
watchlist and alert preferences so they persist between sessions.
Your watchlist & alert settings. The items and outlets you choose to
watch, and your notification preferences, are stored on your device and synced to our servers
against the anonymous identifier above.
Information you choose to send. If you submit feedback or report a price,
we receive the message you write and any name or email you optionally include. Providing a
name or email is entirely optional.
Anonymous usage analytics. To improve the app and website, we record
anonymous interaction events — which pages or screens are opened, and which items are
viewed, searched, or compared. These are tied only to the anonymous identifier described
above (a separate one for the website), never to your name or any account. We collect this
ourselves — there is no third-party analytics, advertising, or cross-site tracking
— and you can opt out on the website by turning on your browser’s
“Do Not Track” setting.
Basic technical logs. Like any online service, our servers keep standard
request logs (such as IP address and request details) for security, abuse-prevention and
reliability.
What we do not collect
No precise or background location. You choose your island manually; the app does not access
device GPS.
No contacts, photos, microphone, or advertising identifiers.
No payment or financial information — the app does not process payments.
No third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
Price alerts are shown inside the app; the app does not collect push-notification tokens.
How we use information
To provide the service — show prices and trends, and keep your watchlist and alerts working.
To respond to feedback and price reports you send us.
To maintain the security, integrity and reliability of the service.
To understand overall usage and improve the app, in aggregate.
Sharing
We do not sell your information and we do not share it for advertising. We may share data with
service providers that host or operate our infrastructure on our behalf, and where required by
law or to protect the service. Aggregated, non-identifying price information may be published as
part of the Ministry's public price-monitoring work.
Data retention
Watchlist and preference data tied to your anonymous identifier is kept while you continue to
use the app. Feedback and price reports are kept as long as needed to act on them and for
record-keeping. You can clear your watchlist at any time in the app, and uninstalling the app
removes the on-device data.
Your choices
Clear your watchlist and preferences any time from within the app.
Uninstall the app to stop all data collection from your device.
Contact us to ask about, or request deletion of, feedback you have submitted.
Children
AguMagu is a general-audience app and does not require any personal information to use. We do
not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we handle.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with a new
effective date.
